Postcard diary: Our first holiday, Snowdonia

17th September, Porthmadog

We arrived at our log cabin at around half 3 after a 3-hour drive. Cabin 121 is amazing and we know that we won't want to leave. After looking around our log cabin, we headed to Porthmadog to have some ice-cream and do the food shop for the week.

The rest of the year was full of lovely days out together, nights out with our uni friends and working on our assignments. Some of my favourite memories together at university were when we had Christmas dinner with our flatmates (this was a year before we were even together), bonfire night, the Christmas markets and of course, all of the nights out! The year went by in a flash, and it was now time for me to graduate and for Jonny and I to move to Derby ready for him to start his work placement. We were only in Derby for a short three months but we made sure to make the most of our time there. My favourite trip we had when we were living in Derby was our visit to Monkey Forest, it was an amazing day full of laughter and monkey selfies!

18th September, Betws y Coed

We started the day off with a tasty bacon sandwich and a coffee. After watching a couple of episodes of Gavin and Stacey, we headed to Betws y Coed. We had a little look around before going to the Alpine Coffee Shop for some lunch. We both tried the Welsh rarebit and it was very cheesy! We're glad we ordered a side of chips too.

We then made our way down to Swallow Falls. This was our favourite part of the day because the view of the waterfall was absolutely beautiful. When we got back to the cabin, we played bingo, went for a walk to look at the other log cabins, had a barbeque and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

19th September

Today we woke up nice and early. Before heading to Portmeirion, we had a bacon sandwich and read some of our book with a coffee. We arrived at Portmeirion around lunchtime so we went straight to the cafe. We went to Cafe Glad and both had a cheese and ham panini. Once we'd finished our lunch, we went for a walk around the woodland and made our way to the 'viewpoint'. It was very windy but the view of the mountains, sea, and beach was worth it.

We then had a look around the village, had a wander around all of the shops and bought a few gifts. After looking around the village some more, we decided it was time to go back to the log cabin. We watched Gavin and Stacey, made sausage rolls, read some more and had a barbeque.

What we have been reading:

Lauren - All That She Can See by Carrie Hope Fletcher
Jonny - The Firm by John Grisham

20th September

Today was the rainiest day of our holiday. The first place we went to was Bedgellert. Here we had a walk around the village, saw Gellert's grave and saw lots of sheep. After looking around Bedgellert for a while, we headed to Criccieth.

It was far too windy and rainy to go on the beach so instead, we ate our chips in the car with the view of the seafront. We then headed back to our log cabin, played monopoly, had an indoor barbeque and watched another season of Gavin and Stacey.

21st September

Today is my 25th birthday - and also the day we went home. Before we left our log cabin, we enjoyed a bacon sandwich and I opened all of my birthday presents. Jonny got me some crystals and a fluffy leopard print bag that I've had my eye on for a while.

On our journey home, we stopped at Harlech Castle for a picnic. As it was raining, we decided to have our picnic in the car with the lovely view of the grand castle. The journey home took around 3 and a half hours. When we finally got back, we ate birthday cake, ordered a curry and had a few drinks.
